Work Instructions — Workflow

Instruction lifecycle

  1. An editor creates a work instruction with its content, ordered steps, and any linked active requirements. It starts at version 1.
  2. When an active instruction is edited, a content change to steps or requirement links advances its version. A name-only edit does not advance it. Earlier version snapshots remain available to view.
  3. The editor may duplicate the instruction as a new document, deactivate it, or reactivate it. An inactive instruction must be reactivated before editing.

Deactivation is blocked while active maintenance assignments use the instruction. Requirement entries likewise have active and inactive states; an inactive requirement cannot be newly linked. Maintenance tasks use the instruction version associated with their record, preserving the steps and requirements for that version.
